I remember a time when our tax dollars were spent on a war on poverty. I remember a time when torture and death squads were third world horrors, and we tried to stop them. I remember a time when planes didn’t arrive in the dark of night, filled with coffins that no one was supposed to see. I remember a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. I remember a time when War must be declared by the Congress. I remember a time when gasoline was not considered worth dying for. I remember a time when sovereign nations were sovereign. I remember a time when there was peace at our borders, in our airports, and in our schools.
I remember America.
And I weep.
Waging peace,
Diane S.
