Zheng Xiaoyu was accused of taking up to $780,000 in bribes to approve untested medicines.The former head of China's food and drug safety regulatory body has been sentenced to death for corruption. Zheng Xiaoyu was convicted by a court in Beijing on charges of taking bribes and dereliction of duty, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.
Zheng, 62, headed the watchdog State Food and Drug Administration which sets standards for food and drug safety, from 1998 until he was sacked in 2005.
